Standard Size Australian Shepherds

Frequently   asked   Questions

I WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTING DEPOSITS ON FUTURE LITTERS EVEN THO I TELL EVERYONE I DO NOT KNOW WHEN I WILL HAVE A LITTER AND I NEVER KNOW WHAT COLOR OR SEX THEY WILL HAVE, MOST PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO WAIT FOR A NEW PUPPY SO IT IS EASIER FOR ME TO WAIT TILL A LITTER ARRIVES AND THEN START ACCEPTING DEPOSITS FOR THE PUPPIES THAT ARE AVAILABLE. ** However if you have purchased a puppy off me in the past and are ready for your next one I will let you have first chance at my next litter.

PRICES AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERDS: TRI $600  & MERLE $900

That is the total price. The deposit is $100 the balance is due in cash when you pick up your puppy.

DEPOSITS Deposits are $100 and NON-REFUNDABLE. Please keep in mind the girls will all start coming in heat around the same time so I may have 2 to 3 litters within weeks of each other, If you put a deposit on a puppy and in the next litter there is one you like better I WILL NOT transfer your deposit to that puppy. So please be sure the one you pick is the one you want if you have doubt it is better to wait!  I do not refund deposits if for any reason you change your mind about the puppy.  I will refund your deposit if for any reason I cant sell you the puppy you put a deposit on. For deposits I accept PayPal, Venmo , you can mail me a check or come in person with cash. I only charge $100 for a deposit even tho most breeders are $300 and up. My reasons for a low deposit....Its enough to tell me that your a serious buyer but if for some reason you back out your not out allot of money (if you can't give up 100 to back out of a deal  you cant afford a puppy) and it covers my time explaining why its now available again.

I WANT A BLUE EYED AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD: I can not guarantee  my puppies will have blue eyes. I start accepting deposits when they are a few days old and their eyes don't open till they are 2-3 weeks old and  they can be born with blue eyes and change color when they are up to 12 weeks old. No breeder should guarantee eye color before then.

WILL TAILS BE DOCKED AND DEWCLAWS REMOVED Yes the tails and dewclaws will be done before they are 3 days old. About 1/3 of the litter usually are born with a natural bob tail or lightly longer if it is to long i will dock but if it is not over long thats how it will stay.

WILL THE PUPPY HAVE ITS SHOTS & DEWORMING Yes I give every puppy its first set of vaccinations at 6wks old. They  get dewormed every 2 weeks. This information will be on a card for you to give to your vet.

WHAT DO YOU FEED? I feed ProPlan  puppy. I give a baggie full with each puppy in case you want to feed something else so you can mix. I have feeding instructions wrote down to take with you.

WHEN CAN PUPPIES GO HOME? I let puppies go home at 7 wks if they do not have to be alone more then 4-5 hours a day and if you have small kids you trust them to handle the puppies properly. I wean puppies at 6 wks mom has pretty much weaned them herself by 5 wks. I socialize my puppies very well and they are ready for their next adventure by 7 wks. (read below). I am flexible for pick up dates what ever is easiest for you! However, if they need to be here after 9 wks your puppy needs to be paid in full on that date along with a $25 charge for their 9 wk vaccination and pay an additional $5 a day boarding fee upon pick up.

DO YOU DO HEALTH TESTING If you look or ask most breeders only offer a guarantee if its confirmed a genetic  defect and only genetic defect that was guaranteed NOT EVERY POSSIBLE GENETIC DEFECT  by your vet and their vet, paid by you,  and then will only offer to let you return your dog and exchange for a new puppy, And will NOT cover any vet bills. ( In my option most people would not trade in their pet that they have cared and loved for probably years by the time a defect is known for a new puppy)  I do not do the health testing. I have read a ton about this subject. Every site goes on to say they only test for certain genes within a certain condition and your dog can still develop that same condition from a gene they did not test for.  It would be very costly to test for all of them.  I really think it gives people false hope that their dog will never get that condition if the parents tested negative. OFA is also one to read all the way through, It states that a puppy with both parents having OFA excellent hips are more likely to have issues. OFA hip certification is only good on that day, and an excellent may have issues later and a poor may never have an at all. Keep your dog active and at a healthy weight and dont make them perform strenuous activity while they are still growing.

Heartworm prevention dosage is safe for aussies even if they have the mutation HOWEVER if your dog needs to be treated because it has heartworms or mange that dose is dangerous. Most owners take very good care of their animals and would never have to worry about treatment but if i ever had to treat one I would test even if both parents were tested negative just to be safe anyway. As far as eating poop from livestock treated with ivermectin my dogs have ate lots of poop from sheep, cows & horses and never had an issue. Just be responsible and keep your medication where your dogs can't get into it.

I have not had any major health issues in 9+ yrs of breeding aussies. But if something genetic (not caused by neglect ie. hit by care, overweight, over worked, not getting regular vet check ups ect.) is proven by your vet that shortens their life drastically or causes you vet bills in excess of $3500, I will give you another puppy for free and let you keep your beloved pet but will not cover vet fees. This is because some vets charge way more then others. I have had an occasional umbilical hernia (2) that were so small they could wait till neutering to be fixed which is about a $50 extra fee on top of the regular procedure which i will cover up to $100 above the regular cost of neutering with vet bill proof. Caused by an over zealous mom licking it to much.

Why buy a puppy from me???

Puppy owners can come visit their puppy, once all their eyes are open, every Saturday from 3-5 so you can come play with all the puppies. Your welcome to bring family and friends along to! Sorry I do not allow you to bring your dog along the puppies are not vaccinated till they are 6 wks old and it can be stressful for the mom to have a dog she does not know around her babies.

I say the very best reason is I start house-breaking the puppies as soon as they start walking. Most owners tell me they have 0-2 accidents total!

I start them on food as soon as they open their eyes. I soak the puppy food in hot water to make it soft add some raw milk from our cows. Some breeders won't offer the puppies food till later because the mom stops cleaning up their poo when they start eating solid food. It makes more work for me but a lot easier on mom.

I actually wean the puppies off mom before you come to pick them up. I think it helps for them to get use to not nursing while they still have their siblings around and means allot less whining for you when they go home!!!

The puppies learn to follow , come when called, how to go up & down a few steps, and most are able to sit & shake hands before going home.

I expose them to other dogs, cats & sometimes chickens, ducks and cows. I have the radio or tv on for them, will run the vacuum, stomp my feet, drop metal feed pans ect so they are use to lots different noise.

They always have a variety of toys to play with.

I take very good care of all my dogs. They are all well behaved ---well most of the time LOL. None of my dogs have to live in a small cage, they all have an inside area and an outside area, a shared play area

I spend a lot of time with the puppies and my dogs. I work at home so I can check in on the puppies frequently and some chores they even get to tag along once they are old enough to keep up weather permitting.
